Managing social risks and opportunities in financing the transition: global experiences

Webinar promoted by ESGeneration Italy during the SRI Weeks

As the process of building a green economy deepens in country after country and sector after sector, it is essential to ensure that the transition is fair and people-centric. COP28 in 2023 made a breakthrough with governments agreeing on “transitioning away from fossil fuels in energy systems, in a just, orderly and equitable manner, accelerating action in this critical decade, to achieve net zero by 2050.”

Finance can play a key role in connecting climate action with inclusive development pathways but currently financing the just transition is still an emerging field. The vast majority of financing decisions for climate action do not explicitly consider the social opportunities, the risks, and the dialogue needed to ensure success. If this gap is not addressed, the world could miss out on the huge potential for social advancement, including more and better jobs, gender equality, and community renewal. A failure to achieve a just transition could also negatively impact workers, communities, enterprises, and consumers, undermining trust and setting back progress on climate action.

This webinar aims to explore the challenges and opportunities facing financial operators as they incorporate the "S" factor into their investment strategies, highlighting international experiences and best practices.

The event is promoted by ESGeneration Italy, the Italian Network for Global Sustainable Finance. ESGeneration Italy has been launched in 2021 by Borsa Italiana (Italian Stock Exchange), the Italian Sustainable Investment Forum (ItaSIF) and the Italian Banking Insurance and Finance Federation (FeBAF) and it is part of FC4S.
